Explore railroad park Scottsdale and Scottsdale playgrounds for unforgettable experiences

Interesting Facts

  • It is home to the Roald Amundsen Pullman car, which was used by the first person to reach the South Pole
  • The park's historic carousel dates back to 1950 and still operates using its original mechanical system

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park stands as a premier destination for families seeking engaging and diverse activities in Scottsdale. Spanning 30 acres, this park has recently undergone a significant transformation, introducing new attractions that have captivated visitors of all ages.

A highlight of the renovation is the 10,000-square-foot Roundhouse, featuring a three-level indoor play structure designed to resemble a locomotive engine. This innovative addition offers children an immersive play experience, regardless of the weather. Complementing this is a 5,000-square-foot splash pad, providing a refreshing escape during Scottsdale's warm months. These enhancements have led to a remarkable increase in park attendance, with a 160% rise compared to the previous summer.

The park's iconic Paradise & Pacific Railroad continues to delight visitors with its scaled reproduction of a Colorado narrow-gauge railroad. Additionally, the 1950-vintage Allan Herschell carousel remains a cherished attraction, offering nostalgic rides for all ages. For those interested in history, the Scottsdale Railroad Museum showcases over 200 years of railroad artifacts and exhibits, including the historic Roald Amundsen Pullman Car.

Playgrounds are a central feature of the park, with two distinct areas catering to different age groups. The railroad-themed playground is fully shaded and includes a misting water feature, making it a popular spot during the summer. The Western Town play structure, built along the train tracks, offers a unique play environment that has been a favorite since its construction in 1978.

The park's recent $13.1 million renovation, completed in time for its 50th anniversary, also introduced a new entry plaza with shaded seating, public art, and upgraded amenities, enhancing the overall visitor experience. These improvements were funded through a combination of voter-approved bond financing and support from the Scottsdale Railroad Mechanical Society.

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park continues to host a variety of family-friendly events throughout the year, including the Halloween Spook-Track-ula, Holiday Lights show, and the Noon Year's Eve party. These events, combined with the park's diverse attractions, solidify its status as Scottsdale's ultimate family-friendly destination.

For more information on park hours, upcoming events, and attractions, visitors are encouraged to check the park's official communications.
