Scottsdale Bar Turns "Drunken Dollars" Into $7,000 For Local Kids

An Old Town tradition proves small bills can make a big impact!

At the heart of Old Town Scottsdale, the Rusty Spur Saloon has long been a gathering place for both locals and visitors seeking authentic country music and a taste of the Old West.

Beyond its lively atmosphere, the saloon boasts walls adorned with thousands of dollar bills, each signed and stapled by patrons over the years.

These bills, however, serve a purpose far greater than mere decoration.

In a cherished annual tradition, the Rusty Spur Saloon recently collected these signed dollars, totaling an impressive $7,000, and donated the sum to Phoenix Children's Hospital.

This act of generosity underscores the saloon's commitment to giving back to the community.

Operations Manager Janeth Moore reflected on the significance of this practice, stating, "These dollar bills symbolize not only the memories made here but also the potential to make a difference in our community."

The funds raised will support over 170 programs at Phoenix Children's Hospital, including investments in new technology and the development of new clinical programs.

Jordan Olstead, corporate development officer at Phoenix Children's Foundation, expressed gratitude for the saloon's ongoing support, noting, "Their generosity helps fund critical programs and brings hope and healing to the patients and families we serve."

The tradition of patrons leaving signed dollar bills began in the early days of the Rusty Spur, which opened its doors in 1951 in a building that once housed the Farmer’s State Bank of Scottsdale.

Over the years, the saloon has welcomed a diverse clientele, from local cowboys to international tourists, and even celebrities like Dierks Bentley and Post Malone.

By transforming a unique decorative tradition into a meaningful charitable act, the Rusty Spur Saloon continues to honor its rich history while making a positive impact on the Scottsdale community.

For those looking to experience this iconic establishment and perhaps contribute to next year's donation, the Rusty Spur Saloon is located at 7245 E. Main St., Scottsdale.

Whether you're enjoying live music, savoring a Cowboy Burger, or adding your own signed dollar to the wall, your visit supports a legacy of generosity and community spirit.
