City enforces age restrictions and safety measures for high-speed electric bicycles |
In a decisive move to enhance public safety, Scottsdale, Arizona, has enacted a new ordinance prohibiting individuals under 16 from operating certain electric bicycles on city property and streets.
This regulation specifically targets Class 3 e-bikes and similar devices capable of reaching or exceeding speeds of 21 miles per hour.
Additionally, the ordinance mandates that all electric motorcycles used on city roadways must be properly titled and registered with the State of Arizona.
According to the Scottsdale Police Department, this measure aims to bolster safety for young e-bike users.
Businesses selling these high-speed e-bikes are now required to display clear notices informing customers of the age restrictions and registration requirements.
This initiative seeks to ensure that parents and guardians are fully aware of the legal stipulations before purchasing such devices for minors.
Violations of this ordinance will result in a minimum fine of $100.
The ordinance is set to take effect on July 31, 2025.
City officials emphasize that this effort is part of a broader strategy focusing on education, outreach, and enforcement to promote safer e-bike usage among Scottsdale's youth.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these new regulations to ensure compliance and contribute to the community's safety. |
