Scottsdale Fire Department Celebrates 20 Years Of Public Safety |
Scottsdale Enhances Fire Services to Meet Growing Community Needs |
Since its establishment in 2005, the Scottsdale Fire Department has responded to over half a million service calls, underscoring its unwavering commitment to public safety.
As the department marks its 20th anniversary, the city is making significant investments to ensure it remains one of the most responsive and advanced in the region.
The recently adopted fiscal year 2025-26 budget reflects a strategic collaboration among the Scottsdale Fire Department, city management, and the City Council.
These efforts aim to bolster fire and emergency medical services to meet the evolving demands of the community.
Fire Chief Tom Shannon emphasized, "These investments are a direct reflection of Scottsdale leadership and their steadfast commitment to public safety."
He added, "Thanks to this partnership, we're able to meet the growing demands of our Scottsdale community with the highest level of emergency response."
Key highlights of the city's public safety investments include:
Competitive Compensation: Continued support of the fire service pay step plan to attract and retain top-tier personnel.
New Fire Station 612: Located near the Scottsdale Airpark and Loop 101, this station will enhance coverage in a vital commercial and residential area.
Reestablishment of Engine Company 6012: The budget reinstates a second engine company at Station 601, providing critical response capability in one of Scottsdale's busiest service zones.
Expansion of Ambulance Services: Three additional ambulances will be launched by the end of the calendar year to meet increasing emergency medical calls.
Enhanced Training Programs: Full implementation of new initiatives at the Scottsdale Regional Training Center, supporting both recruit and advanced firefighter training.
Advanced Staff Development: Funding for life-saving specialties, including hazardous materials response, airport rescue firefighting, and wildland urban interface operations.
This includes a second Technical Rescue Team to handle call volume in and around Scottsdale's McDowell Sonoran Preserve, funded through the Parks and Preserve sales tax approved by voters in 2024.
Wildfire Mitigation Expansion: Strengthening risk reduction efforts in Scottsdale's desert areas to protect life, property, and natural resources.
The Parks and Preserve sales tax provides consistent baseline funding for fire fuel mitigation, which will continue to be augmented through grant funding.
These strategic investments underscore Scottsdale's commitment to public safety and its dedication to meeting the evolving needs of its residents.
As the Scottsdale Fire Department celebrates two decades of service, these enhancements ensure it remains well-equipped to protect and serve the Scottsdale community with excellence. |
