The Scottsdale Police Department is set to revolutionize its non-emergency call handling by introducing an AI-powered call system later this year.

The new system is designed to manage common requests such as report inquiries, online reporting assistance, and general information, allowing live dispatchers to focus on urgent and critical situations.

City Manager Greg Caton emphasized the importance of this advancement, stating that modernizing public safety communications ensures dispatch professionals remain dedicated to emergency responses and essential calls for service.

Residents will still have the option to speak directly with a live dispatcher if they prefer.

Emergency-related calls will continue to be routed immediately to communications professionals, maintaining the department's commitment to public safety.

Police Chief Joe LeDuc highlighted that dispatchers handle an incredible volume of calls daily, and this system is intended to support their work, not replace it.

Implementation is already underway, with staff training, testing, and a phased deployment planned before the full launch.
