City's tourism sector fuels $3.7 billion economic surge in 2024 |
Scottsdale's tourism industry experienced a remarkable surge in 2024, welcoming over 11 million visitors and generating an impressive $3.7 billion in economic impact.
According to the city's latest tourism report, this influx included 4.9 million domestic overnight travelers, 1.7 million international overnight visitors, and 5.1 million day-trippers.
These figures represent a significant increase from the previous year, with domestic overnight visitors rising by 3% and international visitors by 8%.
Major events such as the WM Phoenix Open, Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction, and Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show played pivotal roles in attracting tourists.
Additionally, the city's diverse offerings, from luxury accommodations to cultural attractions, continue to draw visitors year-round.
Local businesses reaped substantial benefits, with 55% of overnight visitors and 59% of day-trippers choosing to shop at locally owned retailers.
Old Town Scottsdale remains a vibrant hub, boasting over 90 restaurants, 320 retail shops, and 80 art galleries.
In fiscal year 2024/25, Scottsdale invested approximately $54.7 million in municipal services for visitors.
Notably, visitor-generated tax revenue exceeded these costs by $22.8 million, yielding a return of $1.42 for every dollar spent.
Mayor Lisa Borowsky highlighted the broader impact of tourism, stating, "Tourism doesn't just benefit our economy—it supports our small businesses and enhances the quality of life for our residents in tangible aspects, such as maintaining low property taxes and providing beautiful resident amenities such as our many parks and entertainment venues."
As Scottsdale continues to thrive as a premier destination, the city remains committed to fostering a welcoming environment for both visitors and residents alike. |
