Scottsdale’s Waterfront is heading into its last week of illuminated art and after-dark exploration as Canal Convergence: Western Nature continues through Sunday, November 15, 2026. For anyone making plans during November 10–16, this is the week to go: the free festival finishes Sunday, giving residents and visitors several more evenings to experience public art along the Arizona Canal.

A Scottsdale Evening Built Around Art and Exploration

This year’s Western Nature theme draws on Arizona and the Southwest, bringing environmental and cultural ideas into large-scale, light-based artworks. The setting is part of the appeal: installations occupy the canal and its pedestrian pathways and bridges between Scottsdale Road and Goldwater Boulevard.

Treat the festival as an evening to wander instead of a checklist to finish. Choose a starting point, give each installation a little time, and leave room to return to something that catches your attention. Groups with different interests can agree on a meeting place before exploring.

Dinner before the lights makes an easy starting point. Browse Scottsdale restaurants in the Inside AZ Directory to compare dining options, then check the restaurant’s own hours and reservation availability before building your evening around it.

Choose the Night That Fits Your Schedule

During the requested week, Canal Convergence runs 6–9 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, through Thursday, November 12. Friday and Saturday, November 13–14, extend to 10 p.m. The closing evening, Sunday, November 15, returns to a 6–9 p.m. schedule.

The longer Friday and Saturday sessions give visitors another hour to explore. A shorter weeknight visit may suit families working around school or anyone planning dinner afterward. Neither choice requires seeing everything; pick the amount of time that makes the outing enjoyable.

Make Room for Music and Hands-On Experiences

Beyond the illuminated works, the festival includes live music and dance, workshops, tours, food trucks, and a beer and wine garden. Admission is free, but review individual activity listings for registration requirements and any separate charges.

Tuesday brings a special program: Scottsdale Salutes and the U.S. Navy Band Commodores Jazz Orchestra starts with a 6 p.m. presentation, followed by sets at 6:30 and 7:35 p.m. at the Waterfront’s Herberger Stage.

Keep Your Plans Flexible

Look over the current program before leaving home and choose one performance or activity as your anchor. Build the rest of the evening around that commitment. This gives the visit a little structure while allowing time for unexpected discoveries between stops.

If you are meeting friends, share the exact meeting location rather than simply saying the Waterfront. Charge your phone, bring comfortable walking shoes, and consider an extra layer for the evening. Check parking information and any accessibility questions directly with the organizer.

For another way to plan the meal portion of your outing, explore the Try Scottsdale Insider Directory’s Scottsdale restaurant category. Use it to shortlist a few possibilities rather than assuming every restaurant will be accepting walk-ins during festival hours.

A Final Weekend Worth Putting on the Calendar

Photography fans can make this a slow evening of observation. Take a few pictures, then put the phone down and watch how the installations change as people move around them. Leave space on walkways and follow posted instructions around interactive pieces.

Families may prefer selecting a few highlights and allowing children to help decide the route. Couples can build a date around dinner and a walk, while friends can use a scheduled performance as their gathering point. The same festival can support several different kinds of evening.

Remember the Sunday Closing Date

Canal Convergence ends November 15, so Monday, November 16, is outside this year’s run. Confirm the latest schedule before heading out, especially if a particular performance or workshop is your main reason for visiting. For this week’s Scottsdale plans, the Waterfront offers a memorable combination of public art, music, and time outdoors.
